The Gallery is located at the corners of Kitchener and Wellesley streets in central Auckland. Main entry is via Kitchener street.
Car parking
Accessible car parks are available on Kitchener street (approx. 10 metres' walk from our main entrance), as well as in the Victoria Street East car park (approx. 260 metres' walk to our main entrance).
Bus, train and ferry
Find us just off Queen Street in Auckland's CBD – we’re a quick 15-minute walk from Britomart Transport Centre and the Ferry Building.
Ride up Queen Street on the City LINK bus or jump on the Outer LINK bus to travel to the Gallery along Wellesley Street.
Please note: Significant construction works as part of the City Rail Link project will see CBD bus routes and bus stops being diverted. To avoid disruption please plan your public transport journey in advance here.
Taxis
Taxis can pick up and drop off from the loading bays on Kitchener Street (approx. 10 metres walk to our main entrance).
All areas of the Gallery are accessible by wheelchair or by pram, and we recommend using the lifts from our Foyer to access all exhibition spaces.
To access our Lower Ground level, please use the accessible lift at the south end of the Gallery. This is indicated by signage or you may ask any of our Gallery Assistants for directions.
All our lifts have braille floor numbers and an automated recording informs you of the level at which the lift has stopped.
Very occasionally there may be an artwork on display that doesn’t accommodate wheelchair access. If you are unsure if this is the case, please ask a Gallery Assistant.
Entry doors
We have three accessible doors located beside the Gallery's main revolving entry and exit doors. These are hinged, automatic opening doors and are activated by pushing a small ‘press to open door’ button on the grey metal bollard beside each door.
Once you have entered the Gallery, you will find accessible counters immediately ahead of you at our main information desk.
Accompanying carers / in-Gallery assistance
We offer complimentary Gallery entry to accompanying carers.
Gallery Assistants are available throughout the building to answer any questions or provide directions if desired. Gallery Assistants who can speak multiple languages wear red badges with a greeting on their uniforms.
Entry for service dogs
Guide dogs are permitted in the Gallery.
Wheelchairs and more
Wheelchairs, crutches / walking sticks are available for free. Booking is recommended. To book, please call +64 9 307 7700 and speak to a Gallery Assistant.
We have a free cloakroom where you can leave backpacks and other belongings.
